Sharjah Police have seized eight vehicles after their drivers were caught performing reckless stunts during rainy conditions, endangering public safety and violating federal traffic laws, authorities said.
The incidents occurred during recent rainfall, when reduced visibility and slippery roads significantly increased the risk of serious accidents. Police said the drivers engaged in dangerous manoeuvres, prompting immediate intervention by patrol units.
Authorities confirmed that multiple violations were recorded against the offenders under the Federal Traffic and Traffic Law. Under Article No. (1), drivers face a Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points, and a vehicle detention period of up to 60 days for reckless driving that threatens lives and property.
In addition, some drivers were found operating vehicles without licence plates, a serious offence under Article No. (4) of the same law. This violation carries a Dh3,000 fine, 23 black points, and vehicle impoundment of up to 90 days, police said.
Sharjah Police stressed that traffic violations during adverse weather conditions are treated with zero tolerance, as rain significantly raises the likelihood of loss of control and multi-vehicle collisions. Officials urged motorists to drive cautiously, reduce speed and avoid unnecessary travel during poor weather.
The authority reiterated that reckless behaviour not only puts drivers at risk but also endangers other road users, including pedestrians and emergency responders.
Police added that intensified patrols and monitoring will continue across the emirate, particularly during unstable weather, and warned that further violations will be met with strict legal action.
Residents are encouraged to report dangerous driving through official police channels to help maintain road safety.
