Dubai’s efforts to ease traffic congestion and improve access to major destinations are progressing steadily, with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announcing 65% completion of a new bridge linking Shaikh Zayed Road directly to Dubai Harbour.
The infrastructure project is designed to significantly reduce travel times and enhance connectivity to one of Dubai’s most prominent waterfront destinations, which includes residential towers, hospitality venues, cruise terminals, and leisure attractions. Once completed, the bridge is expected to divert traffic away from existing internal roads, easing pressure during peak hours and major events.
According to the RTA, the bridge forms part of a broader strategy to upgrade Dubai’s road network in line with the city’s rapid urban growth. Shaikh Zayed Road remains one of Dubai’s busiest highways, and providing direct access to Dubai Harbour is expected to streamline traffic flow for both residents and visitors.
The new bridge will offer a seamless route for motorists travelling from central Dubai and neighbouring emirates, reducing reliance on secondary roads and cutting down congestion in surrounding areas such as Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence. Improved access is also expected to support Dubai Harbour’s role as a key tourism and maritime hub, particularly during cruise season and large-scale events.
Officials say construction is progressing according to schedule, with work focused on structural components, road surfacing, and safety features. Once operational, the bridge will enhance road safety, reduce journey times, and contribute to lower vehicle emissions by minimising stop-start traffic.
The project aligns with Dubai’s long-term vision to develop smart, efficient, and sustainable transport infrastructure, ensuring that mobility keeps pace with population growth and economic expansion.
