Amira: Orinta, you’ve been leading Moda Interni LLC for over 25 years. How did the journey begin, and how has the brand evolved?

Orinta Petruzyte:

My subconscious journey into design began at the age of 16, when I bought my first set of furniture—even though I had nowhere to put it. I was simply drawn to it. My conscious journey truly began in Dubai, where I studied and started freelancing. In 2007, I established Moda Interni, marking a new chapter in my life.

In the early days, I worked on small projects for my brave friends, experimenting with wall finishes and creating my own artwork.

Amira: Moda Interni is known for blending luxury with functionality. How do you balance modern aesthetics with practicality?

Orinta Petruzyte:

My design philosophy revolves around the intended purpose of a space. Sometimes practicality leads the way, other times aesthetics take precedence—but ideally, it’s a balance of both. I approach each project holistically, allowing creativity and spontaneity to influence the process. A piece of art, a unique fabric texture, or even a certain light reflection can become the spark that transforms an entire concept.

Amira: Can you walk us through your turnkey interior design process?

Orinta Petruzyte:

Seamless and turnkey—those two words do go together, though sometimes it feels like an art form in itself! Every project has its own rhythm and dynamics. The key is maintaining open communication between the client and suppliers, staying flexible, and embracing creativity along the way. I like to call it a “tough love approach”—a mix of discipline, spontaneity, and genuine care for the project.

Amira: What design trends are shaping luxury interiors in Dubai and the Gulf, and how does Moda Interni stay ahead?

Orinta Petruzyte:

Trends are always evolving, but I prefer to look at each project from the client’s perspective. My role is to translate their vision into reality. When I have full creative freedom, I love experimenting with new materials and finishes—not just because they’re trendy, but because they’re exciting and innovative. Design should never feel static; it should surprise and inspire.

Amira: How do creativity and cultural understanding influence your work across diverse clients?

Orinta Petruzyte:

I don’t see huge differences based on culture—it’s more about personality types. Some clients value practicality, asking how easy it is to clean certain materials, while others focus purely on visual appeal. Then there are those who want everything done “yesterday”! (laughs) Each personality brings a different kind of challenge and energy, and I enjoy adapting to that.

Amira: Sustainability is becoming essential. How does Moda Interni embrace eco-friendly design?

Orinta Petruzyte:

Our approach has evolved significantly. Years ago, I might have used materials like zebra skins or kudu horns, but today that’s unthinkable. We now opt for eco-friendly alternatives—for example, using PU or PVC instead of real leather or fur. It’s not just about following trends; it’s about being responsible and aligned with modern values.

Amira: You speak multiple languages. How does that help in your international collaborations?

Orinta Petruzyte:

Languages are a huge advantage in this field. I speak English, Lithuanian, and Russian, which helps me connect with clients from different backgrounds. I wish I had learned Arabic—it’s still on my list! I once started learning Italian, but maybe it’s time to add Chinese to the mix. There’s always room to grow. (smiles)

Amira: Could you share a recent project that represents Moda Interni’s signature style?

Orinta Petruzyte:

One of my favorite recent projects was for Farah F., a dynamic lawyer and CEO of a tech platform called Lively. She’s a true rockstar—in work and in life. It was a perfect collaboration where creativity met mutual respect. When your work is appreciated and valued, you naturally deliver more. That project beautifully captured our signature blend of symmetry, texture, and innovation.

Amira: What challenges and opportunities do you see in the UAE design market?

Orinta Petruzyte:

I love how quickly new technologies are transforming our field. We now see materials being laminated, printed on glass, or made as thin as 3mm—it’s magical! I recently worked with mosaics that used microchip technology from Visa cards—the innovation never stops. I’m also inspired by the revival of Arabic cultural elements such as mashrabiya patterns, Islamic geometry, and calligraphy in fabrics and prints. It’s a wonderful fusion of tradition and modernity.

Amira: Finally, what is your vision for Moda Interni over the next five years?

Orinta Petruzyte:

Expanding your luxury portfolio and focusing on creating spaces with emotion, comfort, and timeless beauty are excellent goals. The commitment to continuous learning and pushing boundaries will be key to achieving that vision and adding those extra zeros to the project budgets!
