Jebel Jais Reopens Fully to Visitors as Permit Requirement Lifted After Repairs

Visitors can now drive up to Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest peak, without requiring an entry permit, after authorities lifted all access restrictions to the popular Ras Al Khaimah mountain destination.

The route had been temporarily closed earlier in the season following heavy rains that damaged sections of the road and raised safety concerns. After completing repair works and conducting comprehensive safety inspections, officials have confirmed that normal access has fully resumed, restoring one of the country’s most visited outdoor attractions.

The reopening is expected to boost tourism and weekend travel, particularly as cooler weather continues to draw residents and visitors to the mountains. Jebel Jais has long been a favourite escape for those seeking scenic drives, hiking opportunities and panoramic views above the desert landscape.

Several key attractions and facilities are now operational. Scenic viewpoints and outdoor recreation areas are open to the public, while popular dining spots such as 1484 by Puro – the UAE’s highest restaurant, accessible with prior reservation – and Red Rock BBQ, which has resumed its full à la carte menu, are welcoming visitors again.

Adventure activities are also gradually returning. The Jais Sky Tour is scheduled to reopen on February 18, operating from Wednesday to Sunday and on public holidays, with scheduled sessions at 9.30 am, 11.30 am and 2 pm.

Authorities have urged visitors to follow safety guidelines while travelling through mountainous terrain and to check weather conditions before planning trips. With access restored and facilities reopening, Jebel Jais is once again positioned as a prime winter destination for outdoor enthusiasts across the UAE.
