Dubai RTA begins traffic diversions in Ras Al Khor

Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has implemented traffic diversions in Ras Al Khor as construction work begins on the much-anticipated Dubai Metro Blue Line, a major public transport expansion project aimed at improving connectivity across the city.

The diversions have been introduced to facilitate early-stage construction activities, including utility relocation, road adjustments and site preparation. RTA officials said the measures are necessary to ensure the safe and efficient execution of works while minimising disruption to road users.

Motorists travelling through Ras Al Khor Industrial Area and surrounding routes are advised to plan their journeys, allow extra travel time and follow posted signage. Alternative routes have been put in place, and traffic flow will be monitored closely to ease congestion during peak hours.

According to the RTA, the Metro Blue Line is a key addition to Dubai’s expanding transport network. Once completed, the line is expected to serve several residential and commercial districts, providing faster travel options and reducing reliance on private vehicles. The project aligns with Dubai’s long-term urban mobility strategy, which prioritises sustainable transport and reduced carbon emissions.

Authorities stressed that the diversions are part of a phased plan and may be adjusted as construction progresses. Additional changes to traffic patterns could be introduced in the coming months, depending on work requirements. Regular updates will be shared through official RTA channels.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been notified, and coordination is ongoing with emergency services to ensure uninterrupted access at all times. RTA urged drivers to remain cautious, adhere to speed limits and cooperate with traffic management teams on site.

The Metro Blue Line forms part of Dubai’s broader vision to enhance public transport capacity ahead of continued population growth. Officials said the project will significantly improve accessibility to developing areas and support economic activity once operational.

While short-term inconvenience is expected, RTA said the long-term benefits of the project will outweigh temporary disruptions. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed and use navigation apps for real-time traffic updates as construction moves forward.
