Abu Dhabi, UAE – 15 October 2025
The United Arab Emirates has achieved a significant milestone in telecommunications by conducting the Middle East’s first-ever 6G Terahertz (THz) pilot, reaching a record-breaking data transmission speed of 145 gigabits per second (Gbps). This groundbreaking trial was a collaborative effort between e& UAE and New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), marking a pivotal moment in the region’s technological advancement.
The successful demonstration utilized Terahertz frequency bands, which are essential for next-generation 6G technology. These frequencies offer ultra-high capacity and ultra-low latency, enabling transformative applications such as holographic telepresence, extended reality (XR), terabit-class backhaul, and digital twins.
Marwan Bin Shaker, Acting Chief Technology and Information Officer at e& UAE, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “This milestone demonstrates our ability to pioneer at the edge of technology, exploring the transformative potential of 6G to reimagine how people, businesses, and cities connect.”
The trial not only showcases the UAE’s leadership in 6G research but also underscores the importance of academia-industry collaboration in advancing technological innovation. The partnership between e& UAE and NYUAD reflects a shared commitment to shaping the future of intelligent, immersive, and sustainable connectivity.
As the UAE continues to invest in cutting-edge technologies, this 6G breakthrough positions the country at the forefront of the global digital revolution, paving the way for a smarter and more connected future.
