UAE’s Long-Term Approach Drives AI Leadership: Omar Al Olama

Omar Sultan Al Olama, the UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, emphasized the nation’s long-term commitment to artificial intelligence (AI) as a cornerstone of its strategic vision. Reflecting on the UAE’s early investments, he noted, “We don’t think like other countries; we think in multidecade intervals. We started investing in AI in 2008 – very early days.”

This forward-thinking approach is encapsulated in the UAE’s National AI Strategy 2031, which aims to position the country as a global leader in AI by integrating AI technologies across key sectors such as healthcare, education, transportation, energy, and government services. The strategy includes AI-friendly legislation, promotion of AI education, investment in infrastructure, and fostering international partnerships.

Under Al Olama’s leadership, the UAE has become a hub for AI research and innovation, establishing AI-focused incubators, accelerators, and research centers. Initiatives have been implemented to promote AI adoption across sectors like healthcare, education, transportation, and smart government services.

Al Olama’s vision underscores the UAE’s commitment to not only adopting AI but also leading its development and ethical application, ensuring the nation remains at the forefront of technological advancement globally.
