UAE says flights to Algeria unaffected as air services agreement review begins

The UAE has confirmed there is no immediate disruption to flights between the UAE and Algeria after Algeria announced it had begun procedures to terminate the Air Services Agreement signed between the two countries in 2013.

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said the agreement remains in force during the official notice period, meaning air traffic operations will continue as normal for now. Airlines operating between the two nations are expected to maintain scheduled services while the process unfolds.

Authorities added that coordination is ongoing through official diplomatic and aviation channels, and the situation is being managed in accordance with international aviation regulations and legal frameworks governing bilateral air service agreements.

Algeria announced on Saturday that it had initiated steps to cancel the agreement originally signed in Abu Dhabi, though no specific reason was publicly cited. Such agreements typically regulate flight rights, frequencies, and operational conditions between countries, and changes usually involve formal transition periods.

Officials emphasised that passengers and airlines should not expect immediate changes, with any future adjustments likely to follow formal procedures and advance notice.
