Dr Anwar Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has dismissed rumours that the UAE is considering a civilian administration role in Gaza, reaffirming the country’s commitment to a collective, multilateral approach to the region’s humanitarian and political challenges.
Speaking at the World Government Summit, Gargash stressed that claims of a unilateral UAE role in Gaza are “not true,” highlighting the nation’s long-standing focus on cooperation with regional and international partners. “We have to work with the Palestinians… Egyptians, Israelis, Jordanians, and American leadership,” he said, emphasising that any efforts must involve joint planning and collaboration to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Gargash also highlighted the UAE’s humanitarian contribution, noting that the country has provided around 45 per cent of aid to Gaza during its toughest times, focusing on healthcare, food assistance, infrastructure support, and education initiatives. He described this support as part of a broader strategy to stabilise conditions and promote sustainable development, rather than taking on administrative responsibilities.
The UAE has consistently advocated for a coordinated regional approach to address Gaza’s humanitarian and governance challenges. Analysts say Gargash’s remarks aim to reassure both regional partners and the international community that the UAE seeks constructive engagement, not unilateral intervention.
With Gaza facing ongoing humanitarian pressures, the UAE continues to emphasise the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and aid coordination, working alongside international and regional actors to support the Palestinian population and promote long-term stability.
