Parts of Sharjah and Fujairah experienced heavy rainfall on Friday morning as cooler winter conditions became more pronounced across the UAE. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has warned that unsettled weather may continue through the day, with further showers possible in several areas.
According to the NCM, the rainfall is linked to the extension of surface low-pressure systems combined with cooler air masses, a pattern commonly seen during the UAE’s winter months. These conditions have brought lower temperatures, cloud cover, and intermittent rain, particularly affecting the country’s eastern and northern regions.
Residents have also been advised to remain cautious due to high humidity levels expected later in the day and overnight. The weather authority noted that humidity could increase significantly, raising the likelihood of mist or fog formation, especially in coastal and inland areas. Reduced visibility may occur during the early morning and late-night hours, posing potential risks for motorists.
Authorities urged drivers to exercise caution on wet roads, maintain safe distances, and avoid sudden braking, particularly in areas where rainfall has been heavier. Fog-prone zones may also see fluctuating visibility, and motorists are advised to follow traffic updates and official guidance.
While rainfall in the UAE is generally limited, winter showers play an important role in moderating temperatures and replenishing groundwater. However, sudden downpours can also lead to temporary water accumulation on roads and in low-lying areas, especially in the eastern emirates, where rainfall tends to be more intense.
Temperatures across the country are expected to remain relatively cool compared to recent weeks, with daytime highs lower than seasonal averages in some areas. Cloud cover may persist at intervals, contributing to a cooler feel throughout the day.
The NCM continues to closely monitor conditions and has encouraged residents to stay informed through official weather bulletins and alerts. Individuals planning outdoor activities, travel, or marine operations are advised to check forecasts regularly, as weather conditions can change rapidly.
As winter weather settles in, residents can expect a mix of cooler temperatures, occasional rain, and variable visibility over the coming days – a reminder of the importance of staying weather-aware during the season.
