Dubai Drone Shows Light Up Sky for Sheikh Mohammed’s 20th Accession Anniversary

Dubai’s skyline will transform into a living canvas on 4 January as the emirate marks the 20th anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s accession as Ruler of Dubai. To honour the milestone, DAMAC Properties is organizing two large-scale drone shows that promise to be among the most visually striking celebrations of the year.

The drone displays will take place at 6:45 PM and 9:30 PM, with Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) confirmed as a primary viewing location, alongside other prominent sites across Dubai. Residents and visitors can expect coordinated aerial choreography, illuminated formations, and symbolic imagery celebrating Sheikh Mohammed’s two decades of leadership and Dubai’s transformation into a global city.

In addition to the drone shows, DAMAC has rolled out celebratory branding across its most recognizable developments. Safa One, DAMAC Tower by Paramount, DAMAC Lagoons, DAMAC Hills, DAMAC Hills 2, DAMAC Heights, and Cavalli Tower are all adorned with banners marking the occasion, adding to the citywide sense of celebration.

What Viewers Should Know

The shows are free to attend and visible from several public areas, particularly along the beachfront and high-rise districts. Viewers planning to attend are advised to arrive early, especially around JBR, where crowds are expected to gather well before each showtime. Traffic diversions and limited parking may be in place, so using public transport or ride-hailing services could help avoid delays.

Drone shows have become a signature element of Dubai’s major celebrations, offering a quieter and more environmentally friendly alternative to fireworks while delivering high-impact visuals. This event continues that trend, combining cutting-edge technology with cultural significance.

The anniversary marks a major chapter in Dubai’s modern history, reflecting Sheikh Mohammed’s role in shaping the emirate’s economic growth, infrastructure, and global standing. For residents and visitors alike, the 4 January drone shows offer a rare opportunity to witness a public tribute on a truly grand scale, set against one of the world’s most recognizable skylines.
