Sharjah: A 17-year-old Indian expatriate student in the UAE has died after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest, her family confirmed on Friday, sending shockwaves through the local community and school network.
The student has been identified as Aisha Mariam, a Grade 11 student at Sharjah Indian School, one of the emirate’s largest institutions offering the Indian curriculum. According to family members, the teenager collapsed unexpectedly and was rushed for medical attention, but doctors were unable to revive her.
Details surrounding the incident remain limited, and no prior health conditions have been publicly disclosed. Family sources said the death came as a complete shock, describing Aisha as an active and healthy student with no known medical complications.
The school community expressed deep sorrow following the news, with classmates, teachers and parents sharing messages of condolence and support for the grieving family. School authorities said counselling support has been made available to students affected by the loss.
“Aisha was a bright student and a kind soul. Her passing has left us heartbroken,” a member of the school community said.
Sudden cardiac arrest in young people, though rare, can occur due to undiagnosed heart conditions, according to medical experts. Doctors often stress the importance of awareness, early screening, and prompt emergency response, particularly in school and sports environments.
Community leaders and expatriate groups in Sharjah have also rallied around the family, offering assistance during what many described as an unimaginable loss. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
The tragedy has renewed conversations among parents and educators about student health monitoring, emergency preparedness in schools, and the availability of life-saving equipment such as automated external defibrillators (AEDs) on campus.
As tributes continue to pour in, many described Aisha as a gentle, respectful, and well-loved student whose life was cut tragically short.
Authorities have not indicated that further investigation is required, noting that sudden cardiac events can occur without warning, even among young individuals.
The family has requested privacy as they mourn the loss of their daughter.
