UAE braces for unstable weather, authorities urge caution

Dubai: Residents across the UAE woke up to another day of unsettled weather on Thursday, December 18, as authorities issued fresh advisories urging caution on the roads and recommending that people avoid unnecessary travel.

Weather instability continued across several parts of the country, prompting reminders from transport and safety authorities to remain alert. In Abu Dhabi, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) reiterated its directive for delivery motorcycle riders to strictly comply with the suspension of movement and services during periods of adverse weather, stressing that the measure is aimed at protecting riders and other road users.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy to cloudy, with the formation of cumulus clouds that may bring varying levels of rainfall across different regions. The forecast also warns of the possibility of thunder, lightning and hail in some areas, particularly during periods of intensified cloud activity.

Motorists have been urged to exercise extra caution, especially during sudden downpours that may reduce visibility and cause water accumulation on roads. Authorities advised drivers to reduce speed, maintain safe distances and follow electronic road signs, which may reflect temporary speed reductions during poor weather conditions.

In addition to road safety concerns, marine warnings remain in place for parts of the country, with rough to moderate sea conditions expected at times. Fishermen and seagoers have been advised to check official updates before heading out.

Emergency and municipal teams remain on standby in areas prone to flooding, while residents have been reminded to avoid crossing valleys and low-lying areas during rainfall. Officials also encouraged the public to stay informed through official channels and weather alerts, as conditions may change rapidly throughout the day.

Weather experts note that such unstable conditions are typical during transitional winter periods, when shifts in temperature and atmospheric pressure can lead to sudden and intense weather activity.

Authorities said further updates will be issued as needed, urging residents to prioritise safety and remain cautious until conditions stabilise.
