Dubai Police Unveil Dh525 Million Forensic Innovation Hub to Revolutionise Crime Investigation.

DUBAI – The Dubai Police are pushing the boundaries of forensic science – and the future of criminal investigations – with the upcoming inauguration of a Dh 525 million state-of-the-art forensic complex, expected to launch in 2026.

The new facility, located on Tunisia Street and designed in the shape of the human body, will bring together advanced disciplines under one roof: from forensic dentistry and entomology to next-generation genomics, pathology, and an AI-powered medical simulation theatre.

One of the most groundbreaking capabilities of the complex is a “virtual autopsy” – a non-invasive, AI-driven process that can complete examinations in just five minutes, a sharp contrast to conventional autopsies that once took hours.

The new genomics unit – part of the already operational Dubai Police Genome Centre – further elevates the force’s scientific edge. The centre, inaugurated in 2023, handles forensic-level DNA testing, genetic profiling, and metagenomics, supporting both criminal investigations and, remarkably, offering life-saving insights in rare medical cases.

In one recent example, genome analysis helped identify a rare genetic mutation in a child who died unexpectedly. Though there were initially “no signs of foul play,” DNA testing revealed the gene that had caused sudden death. With consent, the child’s mother and sister were also tested – and being carriers meant they could seek early treatment, potentially saving lives. “Genomics is the father of all sciences,” commented senior forensics officials.

Beyond autopsies and DNA work, the upcoming complex promises far faster turnaround times across forensic disciplines. In the past year alone, the Dubai Police conducted around 65,000 specialised forensic examinations.

The facility will house forensic-nursing services – reportedly the first of its kind in the UAE – helping to manage roughly 40% of what previously required a forensic doctor’s involvement. This move is expected to streamline procedures and significantly improve efficiency.

With its opening slated for end-2026, the new Dubai Police complex is being hailed as one of the most sophisticated forensic science hubs worldwide – a milestone that could reshape how justice is served, crimes are solved, and even save lives through early genetic detection.

Why This Matters

The blend of virtual autopsies, genomics, forensic entomology, and AI-powered labs showcases a leap from traditional forensic methods to science-driven, high-speed investigations.

The ability to deliver rapid results – sometimes in minutes – can dramatically accelerate legal processes, reduce backlog, and improve accuracy in criminal cases.

The genomics department’s dual role – in criminal forensics and public health/medical genetics – underscores a wider societal impact beyond policing.

As forensic science evolves globally, Dubai is positioning itself as a potential benchmark for others, reinforcing its reputation for innovation and safety.
