Adiala Jail dismisses rumours about Imran Khan transfer -confirms he remains “healthy and inside facility”
Adiala Jail authorities have rebuffed circulating reports that the former prime minister had been moved from the prison. Officials clarified that Imran Khan remains inside the facility, is in good health, and continues to receive full medical care and necessary supervision.
Meanwhile, Khawaja Asif – Pakistan’s Defence Minister – stated that Khan is being provided with “special comforts” during his incarceration. According to Asif, the former PM enjoys “five-star-hotel-like” meals, access to television and exercise facilities, and improved prison accommodations.
Authorities emphasized that the rumours about a transfer or health deterioration are “completely baseless,” urging media and social-media users to rely on verified statements rather than unconfirmed claims.
Adiala Jail authorities have firmly dismissed widespread social-media rumours claiming that former Pakistani Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan was moved out of the facility or was facing a deteriorating health condition. Jail officials stated on Thursday that Khan remains inside the Rawalpindi prison, is “fully healthy,” and continues to receive all necessary medical attention.
Prison Administration Calls Rumours “Baseless and Misleading
In an official statement, the prison administration said the reports circulating online were “entirely baseless,” urging the public not to rely on unverified social-media claims. Officials stressed that all standard health protocols for high-profile inmates are being followed and that Khan’s condition does not warrant any concern.
Prison sources added that Khan undergoes routine check-ups and has access to medical care “round the clock,” a standard practice for former heads of state and political leaders held in custody. “There has been no transfer, no emergency and no change in his confinement status,” officials confirmed.
Defence Minister Claims Khan Is Receiving “Special Comforts”
Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, responded to the controversy by suggesting that Khan’s prison conditions are more favourable than those of ordinary inmates. Speaking to local media, Asif alleged that the PTI founder was receiving “special comforts” behind bars, including improved meals, greater access to facilities and additional allowances not typically offered to regular prisoners.
According to the minister, Khan’s food arrangements, medical access and exercise routines were “better than what most prisoners receive,” describing them as “five-star comforts” compared to standard jail conditions. The PTI, however, has rejected these claims, calling them “political propaganda.”
PTI Supporters Demand Transparency
The rumours about Khan’s alleged transfer spread rapidly across social media over the past 24 hours, prompting thousands of posts from his supporters demanding clarity about his safety and current status. Many PTI leaders took to online platforms to insist that the government provide “transparent and regular updates” regarding the health and security of their party’s founder.
Some opposition members also criticised the government for what they described as “contradictory and inflammatory statements.” Several PTI representatives said they would request an independent verification visit to the prison to put the speculation to rest.
Calls for Verified Information Amid Political Tension
Political analysts say the rapid spread of rumours reflects the heightened political polarization in the country. With several high-profile cases ongoing against PTI leadership, misinformation around Khan’s legal and health status tends to circulate quickly, often triggering confusion and tension among supporters.
Officials have reiterated that only statements issued by the jail administration or the Punjab prisons department should be treated as authoritative. “Public sensitivity around this issue remains high, and people must rely on verified sources rather than speculation,” a senior official said.
Background: Imran Khan’s Detention Continues to Shape Political Landscape
Imran Khan has been held at Adiala Jail following a series of convictions and ongoing trials related to corruption, state secrets, and political unrest cases. His detention has become one of the most divisive political issues in Pakistan, with his party calling the charges “politically motivated.”
Despite being incarcerated, Khan continues to influence political discourse, with PTI maintaining that he is being targeted to prevent him from participating in national politics. The government, however, rejects these allegations, insisting that the legal process is independent.
Authorities Urge Calm as Situation Remains Stable
Officials reiterated that Khan remains in stable condition, his living arrangements are secure, and there is no reason for public alarm. The administration has urged citizens to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified claims that could create unnecessary unrest.
